3 Year Anniversary: A Year Like No Other

3 Year Anniversary: A Year Like No Other

Three years ago was the Grand Opening of our factory in Antigonish, Nova Scotia! It was an incredible day with tears and smiles to have realized our dream in this country after our factory in Syria was bombed. We would like to take today to thank the community and our country for their support on that day and every day since.
Since the opening we have shipped our chocolates across Canada, the US, and the world and we continue this everyday. One peace of chocolate at a time. 🍫✌️

A statement from our CEO on his first Canada Day as a citizen

A statement from our CEO on his first Canada Day as a citizen

Statement by Tareq Hadhad on his first Canada Day as a Citizen

Eight years ago, we lost our home to the war in Syria in the blink of an eye and four years later Canada said to our family, “Welcome home.” Now, there's nowhere else on the entire planet we would rather be!

On January 15th, 2020, the world watched as I was sworn in as a citizen of this country and life has never been the same. I became part of the amazing ‘Canadian Family’, and I am so happy to share this as I am about to celebrate my first official Canada Day as a proud citizen.

Since I first set foot on Canadain soil, I was treated like a citizen. I was welcomed into my new home with more care and warmth than I could ever imagine. I felt like I belonged. I have had the pleasure of sharing my days meeting thousands of Canadians while visiting almost every province and so many towns big and small. I’ve seen the Ottawa Senators play, survived harsh winters and experienced some beautiful summer days too. I have heard the stories of indigenous peoples, the past and current injustices that they still have to live through. I have visited lakes and oceans. I’ve met incredible entrepreneurs, politicians, community builders and volunteers. I have met many immigrants who made Canada their home by choice like me. Through it all, my fellow Canadians have shared their warm hearts and big dreams of what they want Canada to be.

To be a Canadian is the biggest honour of my life. This country was built by a broad range of people from a number of different nationalities and continues to thrive not in spite of, but because of our differences. Canada is a cultural mosaic in which all our diverse backgrounds come together to create a bigger, more beautiful picture of what Canada truly is and the values it represents.

We are a nation of peace, respect, fairness, inclusion, democracy, diversity, compassion, kindness, politeness and empathy. Being nice is what makes Canadians unique, being free and diverse is what makes us strong and "being humans" pledging to help those suffering around the world is what makes us selfless "human-beings".

We are a nation defined by hope and freedom to be the best you can be. Freedom came as a sacrifice by those the soldiers and veterans who served and we should never take it for granted. To all of those serving our amazing country, thank you.

This year, our country has endured a lot of tragedies, one after another. Our Canadian brothers and sisters have hurt. We are a big Canadian family and in times of test, family is best.

No country on Earth is perfect and we have our own failures, but when I became a Canadian citizen, I didn’t just sign up for the country’s excellence, I also owned its mistakes and failures and I will work hard everyday to leave Canada to our children better than I found it.

Today, I sing with pride:

"O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.

God keep our land glorious and free!

O Canada, we stand on guard for thee"

On this Canada Day, I want to wish all Canadians a wonderful and safe celebration. I hope that this country can continue to imagine infinite possibilities and work hard to create them. I reaffirm my citizenship by swearing again that “I will faithfully observe the laws of Canada and fulfil my duties as a Canadian citizen”.

Happy Canada Day to my country, so grateful to call you home.

Our website is operational and we are shipping online across Canada and the US.
To all valued Peace by Chocolate clients,
In these uncertain and trying times we are facing in Canada and around the world, we recognize that now, more than ever, peace and comfort are a couple of things we can all use a little more of.
While we at Peace by Chocolate can't do much to address any of the large problems we are about to encounter as a society, we aim to help those at home add a bit of sweetness and normalcy to days of self-isolation and quarantine. While our products are still available at independent shops and grocery stores across Canada, with an official recommendation for us all to avoid crowds and going out in public as much as possible, purchasing treats at a grocery store is not an option for many. And now with Easter, the year's biggest chocolate-centred holiday, swiftly approaching, lots of people want chocolate more than ever! To help get treats in hand while our clients stay safe at home, the free shipping threshold on our web store will be lowered to $50 per order until further notice and we will continue to ship out purchases as long as it remains safe for us to do so throughout our website www.peacebychocolate.ca.

Take care of one another, folks. Stay safe, listen to the official recommendations of our leaders, and let's do our best to get through this time together.

A Movie Based On Our Story!

SUPER EXCITING NEWS!

We are so honoured to announce that production is underway on a feature film telling the story of our family and chocolate company. This is the biggest event we have experienced since arriving in Canada and we are so proud to finally share this news.

Co-written and being directed by Jonathan Keijser, born and raised in our home province of Nova Scotia, this project has many award-winning filmmakers contributing their skills to help tell our story to the world.

*Photos by: Peace by Chocolate - The Film

Filming began in Canada in early January 2020, and our family travelled to visit the set and shoot a cameo scene for the movie. It was such a cool experience! Actors include Hatem Ali in the role of Isam Hadhad, Ayham Ammar as Tareq Hadhad, Yara Sabri as Shahnaz Naisa, and Najlaa Al Khamri as Alaa Hudhud, and Mark Camacho as Frank Gallant. The release is planned for the fall of 2020. The production company will issue an official press release with more information in the next month or so, but until that time you can learn more about the incredible team of people working on this project on the film’s IMDB page at https://www.imdb.com/title/tt11236228/

At a time when so many of the stories we see can leave us feeling quite hopeless, our goal is for our story to inspire and spread peace. We can't wait to share it with you all!

The Unforgettable Meeting With President Barack Obama

The Unforgettable Meeting With President Barack Obama

Who would have ever thought, after all that our family has been through, after all the unthinkable events in our lives, we will get the chance to meet President Barack Obama!

Represented by our CEO Tareq Hadhad, we sent a note of peace and gratitude to the President.

Our family was also honoured to be able to add an extra touch of sweetness to President Obama’s visit to Halifax last week. We created a chocolate bar specifically for the event and were also on hand at a cocktail reception for VIP attendees. President Obama spoke of the importance of inclusivity and diversity, values that both our family and Peace By Chocolate hold quite dear.

Thank you to East Coast Credit Union and the Nova Scotia Co-operative Council for inviting us to be a part of this historic event.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: INTRODUCING THE WELCOME BAR

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: INTRODUCING THE WELCOME BAR

INTRODUCING THE WELCOME BAR

In 2012 our family lost everything to war in our homeland of Syria and life as we knew it had come to an end. At a time when we had no where else to go, Canada welcomed us with open arms. With the help of our new community in Nova Scotia, we were able to rebuild our lives and business, and are now proud contributing members of that vibrant, supportive, and peaceful community.

This nation was built by a broad range of people from a number of different nationalities and continues to thrive not in spite of, but 𝘣𝘦𝘤𝘢𝘶𝘴𝘦 𝘰𝘧 our differences. Canada is a cultural mosaic in which all our diverse backgrounds come together to create a bigger, more beautiful picture of what Canada truly is and the values it represents.

The Welcome Bar is an initiative designed to promote the values that so define Canada on a global stage, all while raising funds for The Refugee Hub. Housed at the University of Ottawa, The Refugee Hub works to increase protection and rights for refugees by engaging in research, programming, and partnerships with other refugee sponsorship groups and organizations on a community, national, and international level. Proceeds from The Welcome Bar will help them to continue their important work that has had such a big impact directly on our family and countless others across the country. We have experienced first hand how deeply and sincerely Canada welcomes newcomers, immigrants, refugees, international students, workers, and travellers, and this initiative will aid The Refugee Hub in extending that welcome to other families experiencing life's most difficult challenges.

The Welcome Bar is made up of crunchy vanilla cookie crumbles enveloped by smooth & creamy milk chocolate. Much like Canada welcoming people from different walks of life from all over the world, this bar is a fine example of how things that may appear completely opposite upon first glance can actually come together to create something truly special.

Welcome to Canada. We are so glad to have you.
