Our Hearts Are With Manitoba and Saskatchewan

Our Hearts Are With Manitoba and Saskatchewan

In northern Manitoba, more than 17,000 people are being evacuated in what has become the largest evacuation in the province’s recent memory. Dozens of fires are burning, forcing families to flee their homes with little warning and leaving communities facing loss and fear.

At the same time, Saskatchewan is in a state of emergency as wildfires rage across the northern part of the province. First Nations communities like the Lac La Ronge Indian Band, Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation, and Montreal Lake Cree Nation have declared a joint state of emergency. Many are now cut off by fire and smoke, and the call for more firefighting support is urgent. The Shoe Fire, which has grown to more than 300,000 hectares, is now one of the most destructive wildfires in Saskatchewan’s history.

As a family who once lost everything to war and displacement—and as Nova Scotians who watched our forests and neighbourhoods burn just two years ago—we know the pain of seeing your home and your safety disappear in an instant. That pain never truly goes away.

We also know that when disaster strikes, Canadians show up for one another.

To support families affected by the wildfires, we have launched a donation portal with the Canadian Red Cross, where you can give directly to relief efforts:

In addition, we are doubling our donation from the sales of our Manitoba Peace Bar and Saskatchewan Peace Bar. For every bar sold, $2 will be donated to the Canadian Red Cross.

Funds raised will support evacuation efforts, provide financial assistance and emergency shelter, and help communities recover and rebuild.

Our hearts are with every family forced to leave home, every elder and child facing uncertainty, and every firefighter and community leader working around the clock to protect what they can.
