Celebrating the Release of Our New, Expanded Book
Peace by Chocolate Announces the Release of Our New, Expanded Book
October 6, 2026
Our next chapter is here!
Today, we are proud to announce the release of the new, expanded edition of Peace by Chocolate: The Hadhad Family’s Remarkable Journey from Syria to Canada, written by bestselling author and our dear friend Jon Tattrie.
Exactly 5 years after our original book was released, we have more of our story to share. And as we celebrate ten years of Peace by Chocolate in Canada, we cannot think of a more appropriate time to share it with you.
So much has happened since the first edition reached readers. This expanded edition brings our family’s story up to date, with new chapters following the development of our company and the changes in the country we left behind. For those who have followed our journey from the beginning, it is a chance to discover what happened next. For those meeting our family for the first time, we are grateful to welcome you into our story.
Through it all, Antigonish, NS, has always been the real hero of our story. This celebration belongs to the community that welcomed us and to everyone who has supported Peace by Chocolate along the way.
About the book
This expanded edition of Peace by Chocolate celebrates the 10th anniversary of the founding of our company. Author Jon Tattrie tells the extraordinary story of the Hadhad family — Isam, his wife Shahnaz, and their sons and daughters, including Tareq, now an acclaimed speaker and the voice and face of the family’s chocolatier, Peace by Chocolate. From the devastation of the Syrian civil war, through their life as refugees in Lebanon, to their arrival in a small town in Atlantic Canada, Peace by Chocolate is the story of one family and the Antigonish community who welcomed them.
This edition brings the Hadhad family’s stories up to date, with new chapters chronicling the development of the company and the fall of the Assad regime in Syria. Much has changed for the Hadhads since they arrived in small-town Canada, but ten years on, the family continues to spread messages of unity and community. Their remarkable story of resilience continues to inspire people all over the world. This is the story of a family, but it’s also one of hope, of community, and most importantly, of peace.
